FSA loans for farmers

I just wanted to comment on the article about the next generation of farmers [“The next generation,” fourth quarter Tobacco Farm Quarterly].

I think you included some good information, but you included the statement “The Farm Service Agency is an example of one of the government agencies that also has some grants for younger farmers.”

I am a farm loan manager in North Carolina, and as far as I know we do not have grants. We have low-interest loans with longer terms than conventional lenders, but no grants. We do have targeted funds for beginning farmers and some special financing options available, but not grants, to my knowledge.
